Life with Bearon Rowdy von Bow Wow

Brian says, “Sometimes you don't choose the dog but the dog chooses you.”

On Monday we took Rowdy to the pound with every intention of leaving him there. I just didn't think I was ready to train another dog, or had room in my house or heart for him. Then after talking to the guy at the counter and being told that he would be "put down" after only 12 days, I started to cry, and we put him right back into the car and back to our home. Yesterday we took him to the vet and learned he is about a year old, full grown, and in super health. I guess we have two dogs now… sigh. After almost at a week of living together our house seems crowded. But so far, so (really) good!

Bearon was not a dog that was loved the way a doggy should be, and he doesn’t know how to play with people. (I guess living on the streets does that.) When we get down on the floor to play with him he gets a bit confused- but he plays great with Bonzo and the toys.
He follows us around the house and comes when he is called. He is a super fast runner, and very cuddly; but he is not comfortable on the furniture, and when I try to pull him up with me he hops down after just a little while. He is a super mellow dog and will lay at my feet just looking up at me with lovely eyes. He wants love so bad- we will try our best to give it to him.

Here are the bad things that he does:
1. He hops over the fence whenever he wants. Neighbors and the mailman have let us know that he wanders during the day.
2. He darts past anyone who opens a door and rushes to be first through, often causing doorway wrecks and unwanted escape.
3. He is super furry
4. He is not trained and it is a lot of work to get another dog to behave as well as our Bonzo dog. (Although it seems Bo has taught him to lick…argh!)

Here are the good things he does (or doesn’t):
1.He does not chew on things.
2.He is not aggressive with food, toys, animals, or his new people.
3.He is a superfast runner and comes when called without knocking you down (BONZO!)
4.He is a cuddle bunny and I like him!
5. He is kinda lazy when in the house and not super needy.
