Right now in U.S. History we're leaning about slavery and discrimination and in L.A. we've been reading about Harriet Tubman. So I gave my kids an essay topic: "Write a letter to a person from 150 years ago and tell them what life is like for a person your age in 2006"
Here is an exact quote from one girl's paper:
"African Americans are not discriminated against anymore which is a really good thing because they are really good at sports."
My, my, my. It seems there is more teaching needed.
